A free Lifelong Learning Festival and Europe Direct Limerick event delivered by lecturer and expert Anthony Angelini that will focus on “Countering Disinformation through the teaching of Digital Media Literacy”. It will look at the attention-based infrastructure of social media and how this need for engagement encourages the spreading of extreme, hyper-partisan content. The various tools that can be used to identify disinformation will be discussed: e.g. Developing Critical Thinking Skills, Fact-Checking, Analyzing content for manipulation (deepfake, AI generated), Identifying bot accounts.
